Description
This is a very fine animal rug with extensive use of gold thread in the background on the large medallion. It measures 3 feet. x 4 feet 4 inches. This rug was purchased at Ashley Adams Inc. in Naples, Florida in March 1999 for $2700.Hereke rugs are from the small town of Hereke in Turkey (near Istanbul). Hereke silks incorporate up to 800 knots per square inch. These Turkish rugs normally do not follow traditional styles but that of Persian design but highly sought after and at a high price. Hereke has been making fine and tight silk rugs since the 19th century under the establishment of the Sultan of Turkey.Please view pictures for condition and detail.
