Description
Mr. Limpert acquired this group directly from the family in March of 2011. This lot contains 8 wartime letters, with 5 covers, 2 post war letters, and other items. Jerome Enlisted in independent company, First Infantry, Mexican War, June 18th 1847, at Detroit, for 2 years. Enlisted in Company H 5th Infantry as Wagoneer on August 20th 1861 at Fort Wayne, for 3 years, age 33. Mustered August 28th, 1861. Discharged for disability at Washington, D.C November 18th 1862. Re-entered service in company E, Sixth Cavalry, November 24th 1863, at Corunna for 3 years. Mustered December 9th 1863, Discharged for Disability at West Philadelphia, PA on July 24, 1865. He was laid to rest at Oakview Cemetery, in Royal Oak Michigan in grave I-257. See attached photos as evidence of condition and details.
