Description
Rare Mellor & Rittenhouse Licorice Lozenges Jar with Original Lid. Although you will see numerous variations of this companies counter top advertising tins in country store displays, we venture this Counter Sales Jar to be quite Rare. No images were found of an example like this one doing a Google Search. This Jar also is NOT LISTED in the Red Book of Fruit Jars. The lip finish is hand ground and the Lid is simply fascinating as it is reminiscent of the earliest Crowleytown Mason Jar closures having to vertical posts. See photos of this Wonderful example. The lid has two factory made holes for a carrying bail which is missing. We suspect that the new owner could replace this bail by using one of the Globe Tobacco jar Bails commonly encountered. The Last Photo is a copy of Advertisement in 1895 Druggists Circular and Chemical Gazette showing a Display with a Jar atop having a Paper Label and different shape/design than the jar being offered here. We will include a copy of this ad with this lot for the new owner to proudly display with this Jar. See Photos for more details and condition.
